Journeyman Electrician (Newport News, Virginia) Position Overview:

The Journeyman Electrician (Newport News, Virginia) will be responsible for the installation of electrical systems in commercial and light industrial settings.

Journeyman Electrician Responsibilities:

  • Interpret plans and specifications to layout and install electrical system and devices
  • Apply safety standards to work methods
  • Apply National Electric Code requirements to all work
  • Install outlet boxes
  • Bend and install conduit and fittings
  • Install panelboards
  • Pull and terminate branch circuit and feeder wires
  • Install ground rods and grounding electrode system
  • Install receptacles and switches
  • Install light fixtures
  • Install and wire automatic lighting controls
  • Install cable tray
  • Install safety disconnect switches
  • Wire and connect mechanical equipment
  • Pull fire alarm wire
  • Install site lights and poles
  • Dig trenches and install underground conduits


Journeyman Electrician Qualifications:

  • Journeyman Electrician License
  • Experience with performing commercial work (troubleshooting and installations)
  • Customer-oriented, good with people
  • Computer literate
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record


Journeyman Electrician Compensation:

  • Competitive hourly rate
